Stayed at Lanna Palace 2004 for 2 nights last week. We booked the Junior Suite (3 adults & 1 child) and added an extra bed. The grouse with Lanna Palace -the facilities were quite run down for a 2 year old hotel (Im assuming it opened in '04). The tap was wobbly and rusty (I cringed whenever I had to wash my face), the showerhead was definitely rusty (I tried to look everywhere but up) and the flush was not working well. Showering was a hurried affair as we could not bear to be in the bathroom for too long. Location-wise, I was rather glad that Lanna Palace was not right smack in the Night Bazaar like Royal Princess and a few others that were. It is of a walkable distance to the Night Bazaar (around 12-15 mins) or one can always tuk-tuk or songthaew it there. verdict-if I visit Chiang Mai again, and all the rest of the hotels were fully-booked, I would stay at Lanna Palace again. If not, the hotel we stayed at on our 3rd & last night in Chiang Mai definitely gets my vote.
Walking distance from the hotel to the night bazaar is a bit far but easier to get a taxi from night bazaar to the hotel. The buffet breakfast is more suitable for westerners than asians. Therefore, there is not much choice for us to choose.
